This week my video assignment, from my group of women marketers, was to talk about the one thing that is needed. It was left open… it was up to us to determine WHAT that applied to.
So I made my video about mindset. I truly believe that your mindset determines your “luck” in life. One of the few things that we really have total control over is our thoughts. We have the ability to change our thoughts instantaneously.
I think we all know people who are stuck in “victim” mode – where life happens to them, and they don’t take any responsibility for it. And maybe they really don’t realize that their thoughts are what are keeping them captive.
Years ago, I was watching “Oprah”, and one of the things that she suggested to do was to keep a “gratitude” journal. Every night before going to bed, she said to write down 5 things that we were grateful for. Harv Eker also promotes that in his “Millionaire Mind Intensive” course – writing out the things that we are grateful for every day. If you have to struggle to come up with at least 5 items, then you really need to do this!
I find that when I start to get into a “woe is me” mode (which thankfully is pretty rare anymore), if I stop and look around, and thank about the things that I am thankful/grateful for, it lightens my mood. Just a few of the things that I remind myself about are my home, my family, my friends, my animals, my health.
While I do think that being grateful is probably one of the most important aspects of mindset, there is also how we view things. Do you view things that happen as “good” or “bad”? Or do you accept that things just “are”, and maybe are neither good nor bad? That maybe there is a reason for everything that happens, even if you don’t know what that is?
Do you get up in the morning, looking forward to your day? Are you excited about what the day holds for you? Or do you dread the thought of getting up and going to “work”?
I challenge you to go through an entire day, thinking positive, healthy thoughts. If you find yourself becoming negative about something, immediately change that thought into something positive. Let me know how that works for you!
