Split testing with LeadPages
I’m sure that you’ve heard it before: it’s important to do split testing with your ads, and track the results.
One reason is you want to know how effective your marketing dollars are. If you aren’t tracking results, then you won’t know which ad is getting the best results.
When you do a split test, you want to set up 2 different pages. There are a couple of ways to start this, and to continue testing.
One is to set up 2 totally different ads, and see which one works the best. For that, you will need to be able to track your conversion rate (how many of the people that clicked on your ad sign up for your emails or the offer that you presented). LeadPages makes it very simple!
I usually will only order 100 – 200 clicks from a vendor at a time, until I see how well they deliver, and also how well my ad is doing. I check my statistics throughout the time that the ad runs – you will usually see one outperform the other after about 50 clicks. Before that, there really isn’t enough data to work with.
If you are using LeadPages, you can easily change the percentage of how often each ad is seen. I start them out equal – 50% each. If one is really doing much better than the other, then I will change it to 75%/25%, or even 100% on the “good” ad.
Here’s a 5 minute YouTube video that I made on this:
After you find out which ad does the best, the next time you run the ad, use the highest converting one as your original.
Then create the split test ad by only changing one element at a time, otherwise you won’t know which one did the trick.
For example, on one of my ads, all I did was change the background picture, and it made a huge difference in the conversion rate. You could also just change one word of text, or the color of the text or button, or a line of text.
You might find that your original still worked the best. Then change a different element on it for the next ad you run.
Just keep repeating this process, and you will have an ad that has a great conversion rate! It does take a little time and money, but it is all well worth it.
